About Timothy
Timothy Adede is a certified organic permaculture teacher and designer, deeply committed to empowering youth and farmers in his fast-growing community in Homa Bay, Kenya. Through Kanalo Permaculture Farming Projects, he trains over 800 farmers at Kanalo Farm, where ancestral wisdom meets regenerative ecological design. Timothy is also a proud partner of Umoja Greenlands, contributing to food sovereignty and environmental transformation in the region.
But Timothy’s compassion extends beyond the soil—into the lives of animals who suffer silently in our midst.
The Story Behind the Rescue
“When I was a child, I loved animals so much—but I still ate them. In November 2015, my perspective changed forever. One of my beloved chickens, a female I had raised with care, was slaughtered while I was away finishing my final secondary school exam. Coming home to find her gone—it broke my heart. From that day, I made a vow: I would never eat another animal. Instead, I would protect them.” – Timothy Adede
Driven by this lifelong compassion, Timothy began caring for a variety of animals at his grandmother’s home. In 2023, he met Dawn, a vegan friend whose love for animals inspired the name Dawnnamutima Animal Sanctuary. With her support, the fencing for a sanctuary was started, and the seed of something bigger was planted.
Despite challenges, Timothy remained committed to the vision: a safe space for animals rescued from abuse, neglect, and slaughter. The mission grew stronger—and more urgent.
Umoja at Dawn: A New Chapter
Out of this shared mission, Umoja at Dawn Animal Rescue was born. The name reflects both the unity of Umoja Greenlands and the light of a new beginning, symbolized by Dawn. Together, we are building a future where animals are respected, protected, and loved.
Who We’ve Saved So Far
Our sanctuary is still small, but growing with heart.
So far, we’ve rescued:
🐐 2 goats
🐑 2 sheep
🐱 1 kitten
🐶 4 dogs (including one puppy named Master)
🐔 5 chickens
🕊️ 5 pigeons
🐦 3 local bird breeds
Each animal has a name, a story, and a future worth fighting for.
What We Need
To continue rescuing animals and giving them the care they deserve, we urgently need:
Safe shelters to protect animals from harm
Veterinary care upon rescue to prevent suffering and treat disease
Nutritious food, especially for dogs and cats
Fencing and materials to expand the sanctuary space
Support for transport, bedding, and clean water
